Botanical Drawing Classes Melbourne
In botanical art, shading is an absolutely essential skill as it creates an illusion of reality. In this course, we will practice and improve our shading skills on a variety of objects that are white or pale, smooth and textured. We will also look at the cast shadow as a device in art, and the process of planning and creating such shadows in our own work.

In this course, you will be guided through the process of creating a series of illustrations using nature as inspiration. Each week you will learn different drawing skills and techniques that will help you create works of art inspired by the beauty found in nature. While nature will be our inspiration, the drawing skills acquired in this course can be applied to any subject. This class is suitable for absolute beginners.
At Gloworm Studio, we believe that inspiration and creativity can be found everywhere, so we have developed a new series of activities where you can take part in your living room using simple materials found at home!

Melanie completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts (Painting) from RMIT in 2012 and holds an MA in Arts Management.
As an artist, curator and art manager, Melanie has worked in many positions in the arts industry. She has exhibited at various collective exhibitions and has led solo exhibitions in Melbourne and Gippsland, including a large solo exhibition in 2015 at the Latrobe Regional Gallery as a winner of the annual Dick Bishop Memorial Award. She recently won a People’s Choice award at the Roi Art Prize and was a finalist of the Collins Place Art Prize. Melanie divides her time between the northern part of Melbourne and her large painting studio in South Gippsland. Thanks to the studio in the wooded area, the native flora has always been present in Melanie’s work. Jacqueline captures the essence of her characters and communicates her love for the environment with colored pencils, graphite and watercolors. Holds formal university qualifications in visual arts and private academies, in particular a Diploma in Botanical Illustration (Hons) from the Society of Botanical Artists of Great Britain. Jacqueline also has an adult training qualification and offers a small botanical art workshop in Washington.

Jacqueline has exhibited and sold works in England, the Royal Botanic Gardens in Melbourne, and galleries in NSW and W.C.
Publications include contributions to Flora of the South West (CALM) and The Handbook of Plant Forms for Botanical Artists (Margaret Stevens), as well as a DVD tutorial on colored pencil techniques, produced in collaboration with Helen Fitzgerald. Jacqueline offers original artwork and merchandise directly from its website (see information below), where you can also find additional information on tutorials and assignments.
Jacqueline is a member of BASA, FRBGN and Botanical Artistry. He spends several weeks a year collecting data from which he creates finished pictures from his home studio in Mandurah.

Watercolour Botanical Illustration And Natural History Painting Workshops
The Friends of the Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne will host the 16th Biennale of Botanical Art Illustration (TABI) on Saturday 17
TABI is one of Australia’s leading botanical illustration exhibitions and will be presented this year as a hybrid exhibition, with a physical exhibition at the Domain House in Melbourne, and as a virtual exhibition.
The Friends of the Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne (FRBGM) believe that offering the exhibition in a hybrid format will promote the exhibition to a global audience and hope to encourage more international artists to upload their artworks following the success of TABI 2020.

The year of the anniversary celebration will therefore not only be a unique exhibition, as we expected, but also thanks to the alignment with the 7th.
The World Congress of Botanical Gardens and the development of other great opportunities, the fair will also host many exciting events that will increase attendance and engagement of visitors.
During the Congress, RBGV will be showcasing specific areas of Melbourne Botanical Gardens, including Arid and Drylands, Fern Gully (including Sensory Garden) and Working Wetlands and Lake System.
Aligning with Congress presents a great opportunity for TABI 2022 to showcase botanical works that reflect the theme of Congress by incorporating some works of art representative of plants from these significant areas listed above in Melbourne Gardens.

While the artist’s choice of topic is a personal choice, if you are considering submitting a work to TABI, we encourage you to consult the attached list of plants (see below).
While we want to support the theme of the TABI 2022 Congress, artists do not need to paint / draw the theme mentioned above to be selected for this exhibition. You can use the garage at 200 Queen St Melbourne Secure for more parking space. (The Object Guild will not cover this cost)
Please note that unfortunately the building is not wheelchair accessible as there are approximately 10 steps leading to the entrance of the building.

This workshop requires no prior experience and is suited to every skill level – from those who have never picked up a brush to those who want to brush up on their skills.
This class is maintained by the Object Guild. We are a social enterprise with the mission of supporting artists and craftsmen of all skill levels in their creative journey, whether they are established professionals or simply curious about a new craft.
All our classes are led by artists, and the income we generate from these workshops goes directly to the support of our creative community. Our classes are conducted in our very cool and conveniently located studio on Hardware Lane, Melbourne.
