DUFF doesn’t quite achieve teen movie greatness, but it does offer plenty of postmodern twists on the recommended genre – and boasts of star Mae Whitman’s generally excellent work. Read critical reviews

Frumpy high schooler Bianca (Mae Whitman) has a rude awakening when she discovers her classmates secretly know her as a DUFF – referred to as the fat and ugly friend – to her prettiest and most popular friends. Desperate to reinvent herself, Bianca enlists the help of Wesley (Robbie Amell), a charming sportsman. In order to prevent her senior year from being a complete disaster, Bianca must find the confidence to overthrow a critical student (Bella Thorne) and revolutionize the school’s social order. Review of ‘The Duff’: Poor writing plays the villain of the movie that we’re getting a little boring. if someone says it’s obvious, make a whole movie out of it.

What it’s about: A plain-Jane learns the bitter truth – people only care about her existence because her friends are super hot. When his neighbor, a rude school jock, tells him he’s a Designated Ugly Fat Friend (DUFF; as in the movie’s title), he’s nervous enough to change everyone’s perception of him and get the recognition he wants.
What’s hot: Ken Jeong is the only big name, unless you know Ms. Thorne, in this mostly unknown film. Whitman and Amell’s serious performances help the film despite the poorly written characters. The supporting cast is adequate enough.
What’s not: It’s boring when someone states the obvious and then makes a whole movie. The writers obviously don’t want to go beyond the central premise and the inner conflict and awkwardness of Bianca (Whitman). Equally annoying are the standard characters seen in such films, which are conveniently placed where they shouldn’t be. Bianca’s character is too needy, too insecure, and too naive to win your sympathy despite Mae’s best efforts to make it work. Bad writing is the villain of this play.

I actually saw the poster at the cinema while watching another movie and the title really captivated me. It’s been a while since we’ve had another teen movie about a dystopian future where kids fight through jungles and mazes for the benefit of their factions. And it might sound weird, but just from the title and the poster, I knew this movie was going to be a throwback to the classic teen movies I grew up watching, and I wasn’t disappointed.
Okay, Basic Plot: Mae Whitman stars as Bianca Piper, an average teenager who finds out she’s an idiot (designated ugly fat friend) to her two hottest friends. This destroys his self-esteem and prompts him to seek help from Wesley ‘Wes’ Rush (played by Robbie Amell), a sexy high school jock, Wes agrees to make him ‘cooler’ if he agrees to help. help with his problems. science class he failed. The first ten or twenty minutes of this movie are a bit boring because it looks like a carbon copy.
And I know that if you try to remove the film you will fail and your film will suck. But luckily, as the film progresses, it finds its voice and asserts itself and you stop comparing it.
