Eyelet Curtain Fabric By The Metre – STEP: SIMPLE WHAT YOU’LL NEED: Fabric of your choice Curtain tape Scissors Ruler or measuring tape Pins Tailor’s square or pencil Notes – Before entering the Lighting store, prepare yourself by reading our ‘Curtain Fabric Calculation’ guide.
Step 1 – First, measure the width and height of your window. A general rule of thumb for the amount of fill needed for fabric curtains is 1.5 x the width of your window. You should add an allowance of at least 20 cm to each drop for the bottom and top edges.

Step 2 – Place the entire piece of uncut fabric on the correct surface. Make sure the fabric is square by using a sewing square or by lining it up with the edges of your table.

Step 3 – Based on the previous measurements, cut to the width of the fabric. A chalk line can be used to ensure a straight edge. For printed fabrics, a drop should be cut in the same place on each repeating pattern. This will give more experience.
Step 5 – Before sewing the curtains together, it is a good idea to remove 5-10mm of the edges (ie the edges of the fabric). Cut all the edges from each dot.
Step 6 – If you are sewing more than one drop to make a curtain, place the two drops right sides together. Place it in place and sew along the long side. If using patterned fabric, first fold the top edge of the fabric to fit the pattern. Repeat each drop.
Note – If the curtains will open in the middle, sew two stitches on each side. If there is a small amount of drops, you may need to divide the drops into half lengths. Sew half the width to the outside of each side for a neat finish.

Step 7 – sew the side holes turning the side x 3cm. Pin and sew 2mm from the inside edge, remember to remove the stitches as you sew.
Step 8 – fold the top edge of the fabric (top of the curtain) x 1.5cm and press.
Step 9 – Place the loop tape over the pressed seam and tie across the curtain to hold it in place.
Step 10 – Attach the ribbon to the back of the curtain by sewing along both edges of the ribbon and sewing the sides together.

Step 11 – Using a pencil or pen, draw a circle on the fabric in the ring (this will be the back of the fabric).
Step 13 – Press the colored plastic ring onto the face of the fabric and lock it into the metal ring. You will know this is complete when the area is clicked. Once this is done, cut off the excess fabric. If the fabrics have a back, trim them after cutting the fabric.
Step 14 – Use the plastic grommets on the back of the tape to lock the wrap in place. These will ensure that your folds are correct. Now your new curtains are ready to hang.
