Mraz Robinson also adds, “If someone has a history of keloid or hypertrophic scarring or vitiligo, Fraxel is generally not recommended because it can worsen these conditions.” People with dark skin are often at a higher risk of developing keloids (excess scarring from collagen overproduction).
While costs will vary depending on your area, the type of treatment and the number of treatments needed, you could be looking at an average of $500 to $5,000 per treatment, advises Shafer. The average cost in NYC, according to Williams, is $1,500.

“[The] real problem with the Fraxel brand as a whole is the idea that patients can do one treatment and be done,” says Shafer. Fraxel-type lasers only treat 25 to 40 percent of an area at a time. It’s only natural that multiple treatments are needed.”
“Some patients come in who have previously had Fraxel treatments at other offices and tell us they didn’t like their results,” explains Shafer. “When I ask, they say they only did one treatment.”

The Fraxel Re:store Dual Laser, also called the Fraxel laser, is the first “fractional” laser designed to treat a number of skin problems, including acne scars, surgical or traumatic scars, and skin pigmentation. Treatments are performed by a skin therapist or nurse under the supervision of a doctor.
The Fraxel laser is a light-based laser treatment that smoothes fine lines on the skin. As the laser penetrates the deeper layers of the skin, it stimulates the production of new collagen and elastin, revealing a youthful and youthful appearance.
