Islamic Relief Australia Review – Islamic Relief has elected a new board of trustees after The Times reported that one trustee praised the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas and described Israel as the “Zionist enemy”.

Dr. Tayara wrote in Arabic: “The heroes of al-Qasem did not graduate from military academies in the United Kingdom and America, like the rulers and royal families of the Arab world, where they treat foreigners with fear and loyalty – England and America.”

Dr Tayara told The Times that he was “deeply embarrassed” by the articles and was under pressure because of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict when they were published.

He admitted the comments he copied from other people’s posts were “shameful and unacceptable”. We would also like to commend the former board for acting swiftly and decisively on inappropriate social media posts by two former trustees that have come to light in recent weeks.
“In both cases, these are historical Facebook posts from 2014 and 2015, before any individual was on the IRW board. Dr. Amat is an academic and humanitarian who has devoted his career and most of his personal time to human rights advocacy and community work. She is the first female chair of Islamic Aid Australia and is a member of several charity and government advisory boards.
Over the years, Dr Amat has served as a consultant and cross-cultural trainer to various Australian Government agencies and organizations on issues related to Islam, Muslims, multiculturalism, diversity and community development. In the year In 2006, she received the prestigious Australian Muslim Woman of the Year Award. And in 2013, he received an Australia Day Community Award. Dr. Amat is well aware of the plight of refugees. He was born in Vietnam and is part of the country’s indigenous population, the persecuted Cham Muslim minority. After being forced to flee their home after the Vietnam War, at the age of three, Dr. Amat and his parents trekked through the jungles of Cambodia to Thailand where they were arrested as refugees. At the age of five, he lived in five different countries. It was not until Dr. Amat’s family was granted political asylum in America that they were able to settle down. After finishing high school in America, he moved to Malaysia and decided to study Islam at the Islamic University of Malaysia. There she met her husband, a fourth-generation Australian, and soon after moved to Australia. They have three children aged 21, 20 and 17.
