La Marzocco Strada Ep – This week at the TED conference, coffee service baristas had the opportunity to learn about the new addition to the Strada family: the Strada EE.
Characterized by the La Marzocco Strada black side, the Strada EE features standard automatic transmission controls in a Strada body model.

On the Strada EE, similar to the Strada MP and Strada EP, the steering is controlled by a paddle. However, the mechanism for operating the cooker on the Strada EE is different from the Strada MP and Strada EP.

When the Strada EE steering wheel is raised, the microswitch above the compartment cover turns on. This is the small switch that turns on the electric solenoid and pump in the same way that other semi-automatic espresso machines work. In simple terms, the steering wheel is like the power switch found in other “EE” models.
The Strada EE uses a two-stage, pre-programmed transmission. First, the pump is turned on and the water flows into the coffee bed for a set time. Next, the pump shuts down for a programmed delay before turning the pump back on for the duration of the extraction. At the end of the extraction, the barista moves the paddle to the “off” position (based on visibility, time and other indicators).
The two-stage first-infusion allows several groups to work at the same time, regardless of the state of the alcohol system from one group to another.
With the addition of the Strada EE to the Strada family, the family now offers three different types of steering technology:

The Strada MP (manual paddle) gives the barista the flexibility to apply pressure from zero bar to the pump before using the full pump. in the coffee.
With the Strada EP (electronic paddle), the barista can record and play back a pressure curve that can rise and fall anywhere between zero and 12 bars. Once the wave is recorded, it can be repeated by moving the paddle.
The Strada EE has a number of other features that set it apart, including a seven-segment high-contrast OLED rear display and a center console. solenoid valve requires regular cleaning but no rebuilding.
See the Strada EE in action at next month’s SCAA Expo in Seattle, booth 3031, and the Skybridge Cafe, near the Activity Hall entrance, at between the two Expo halls. The Strada EE is also currently being installed in our Seattle training room. Contact training@ to schedule a trial appointment.
