This venue has proven to be the perfect environment for those new to the sport – a completely self-contained venue that requires no traffic management plan. Even those more experienced riders rave about the scenery and peaceful surroundings.
We started with 34 horses, two dropped out and one was disqualified – so we ended up with 31 horses. We held a training session for 8 people to train them in TPR. These volunteers then worked with the evaluation team to assess the horses’ body temperature, pulse, and respiration before and after riding to confirm their “fit to continue” condition.
It turns out that drizzle is actually good for us, helping to keep the horse’s heart rate low. This means that no horse goes over the heart rate limit by the end of the ride – a pleasing result as more than half have never raced enduro and have five junior riders on hand.
