Nrma Service Rouse Hill – Orange offers a huge premium on petrol and diesel, making it cheaper to drive to Bathurst and fill up
Orange now pays a very high premium for fuel, and many residents will save money by driving to Bathurst to fill up.

Skyrocketing prices drive up service costs, increase dependence on other modes of transportation, and drive demand for electric vehicles.

Petrol (95 octane) in Orange averaged $2.11 per liter on August 1, compared with $1.75 in Bathurst – about a 20 per cent premium.
In a vehicle with average fuel consumption (7.0 liters per 100 km), driving 110 km round trip to Bathurst will save about $ 10 on a full tank.
This doesn’t take into account tire usage, depreciation or your time value, but it does show a significant – and confusing – price difference between cities.
Diesel averaged $2.30 a liter compared to $2.02 in Bathurst – a fairly small difference, but enough to marginally warrant a day trip east in the same conditions.

Blayney, Lucknow, Molong and Sydney all have cheaper fuel, while Dubbo prices are roughly comparable to those in Orange.
COVID, the war in Ukraine, shipping disruptions and market interventions have pushed oil prices higher around the world in recent months.
However, experts in the field say that localized peaks and troughs – which are often dramatic from city to city – are difficult to explain.
NRMA spokeswoman Katrina Usman said, “[It’s] the supply, when purchased and the distance traveled by the fuel.

This means that if the service station buys fuel when the price is high and cannot sell quickly, it may be several weeks before it is replaced by a new – and cheaper – supply.
Usman says competition is a key factor in lowering prices: “[In Orange] there aren’t many independent gas stations, so competitive prices are lower.”
Fuel accounts for around 5.0 per cent of weekly expenses for most Australian households and recent increases appear to be influencing consumer behaviour.
The 12 gas stations in Orange were not available to comment on the latest sales, but a July study found 35 percent of Australians reported driving less because of high fuel prices.

Orange bike shop owner Peter Bouton said his shop’s sales increased when fuel costs started to rise earlier this year, but the trend has since slowed: “It’s been very cold.”
Taxi hailing prices will also increase, according to Orange Taxi president Daryl Curran, who said fuel used to make up 10 percent of the cost, but is now about 20 percent.
Last month, Central Western Daily reported that electric car registrations in Orange had increased 1,300 percent since 2018, citing fuel prices as a contributing factor.
Usman said it is unclear where prices will go in the next six months: “Prices are going down, but the oil market is very volatile.”

“There are fears in the market that the rising cost of living will reduce demand and OPEC may choose to further reduce supply to keep supplies tight.”
He says the best way to save money is to download a price monitoring app or website such as the NSW Government’s FuelCheck before buying.
“There is not much difference between the regular price and orange off-price, but you can still save a few cents a liter by shopping around.”

If you are looking for a family-friendly luxury hotel in Sydney’s Hills District, Rouse Hill Mercure is a convenient and comfortable accommodation option.
We took a trip to the Hills district of Sydney and decided to stay in a hotel there as a base for the area as it was an hour’s drive in heavy Sydney traffic. This particular Sydney Mercure restaurant is the only hotel option in the suburb of Rouse Hill, making it a great choice for a comfortable and enjoyable stay.

Although not a large four-and-a-half-star hotel, Mercure Rouse Hill, an Accor group hotel, has a more boutique hotel feel. The hotel has a small but welcoming reception and lounge, offering lounge seating and a large screen TV.
With 24-hour check-in, there is no need to worry if you are going to arrive late at the hotel.
Electric Vehicles A Sensible Choice For Many Drivers
At first glance the entrance to the hotel seems to be from the front of the hotel off the busy Windsor Road, however, access is from the rear, through the car park behind it. It is accessed via the Fiddler Hotel car park entrance on Commercial Street. Parking is free, which makes a nice difference in Sydney, where hotel parking often costs another 30%-40% of the cost of your hotel room!
My teenager and I would like to book a suite for a family of three as the maximum number of adults allowed per hotel room in Sydney Mecure Rouse Hill is two and is classified as a child under 12 years old. We were charged an additional $50 to upgrade from a single hotel room to a one-bedroom suite, bringing the total room price to $289 for a midweek stay, which I thought was pretty reasonable.
The bedroom suite consists of a large king-size bedroom, and the suite is configured to fit three people by arranging a sofa bed in the lounge. A short hall with double wardrobe leads to the bedroom and large bathroom / off the hall opposite the bedroom. A large flat screen TV is located above the lounge and a small TV is in the bedroom. the lounge has a small dining table and many sitting and lounge chairs scattered around the suite.
All of our sets are horse themed, like “Old West” style, but very stylish. A carriage lamp served as a bedside lamp, a side table was reminiscent of a cow or leather barrel – the chair was leatherette, throw pillows and the wall sported horse or carriage print collages. The horses ran under another throw pillow! An elegant-meets-casual hotel room design theme that somehow works well – not the boring white bed, white walls and metal desk approach you often find in other hotels.

The bathroom was big and luxurious. This featured modular, independent shower – especially useful for those needing a break at the end of a long day or for parents of babies and toddlers. A double vanity and double shower with a large, well-lit mirror provides plenty of space for everyone, and plenty of thick bath towels are provided.
Power points are spread throughout the suite to service all the electrical appliances that are currently out of reach for business travelers and families, including the suite’s bathroom – especially when traveling with children! Power point is also conveniently located on both sides of the bed.
With all the standard luxury features you would expect for a hotel room price point near $300, the Sydney Mercure offers sparkling clean rooms and effective, manageable climate control. The beds, including the pull-out sofa bed, were all very comfortable and the linens were of good quality. Although the hotel faces Windsor Road, the sound proofing in the room is effective as we were on the first floor and the noise was barely detectable. Our room looked out onto a small balcony, directly onto Windsor Street.
Nice bathroom amenities like shampoo, conditioner and shower gel are included. There is a capsule coffee maker, mini bar fridge stocked with soft drinks and chocolate bars (for an additional fee), lockable personal safe and ample tea and coffee supplies along with ironing board and iron.

The Mercure hotel swimming pool, always a welcome addition for families or active business travelers, is directly off reception, hence the reception lounge on the ground floor. It’s a compact and narrow pool – perhaps lending itself to a shorter lap pool rather than a family fun spot. He said it would be a welcome relief in the heat of a hot Western Sydney day!
