It’s been a busy few weeks in the smartphone space, with Telstra announcing its new plans on the same day that Samsung announced prices for its new flagship smartphones, the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge.
Telstra’s competitors are also busy preparing for the escalating battle for the customer dollar, and Virgin Mobile is announcing data replacement in its plans at the start of the month, allowing you to take unused data with you month after month.
Full information on the inclusion of data in the various rates of Telstra plans is available on the Telstra website. The Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge finally have an Australian release date: April 10th. Pre-orders start online today at 17:00. Both phones will hit Australian shelves on the same day, albeit at different prices.
What’s Changed In The S9, And How Is The Camera Different?
Unfortunately, Australian vendors will not be offering the eye-catching blue or green models featured at Mobile World Congress (MWC). Instead, only black and white versions will be available.
The “flat” S6 will start at $999 for the 32GB variant and go up to $1299 for the 128GB variant.
The S6 Edge will start at $1,149 for 32GB and go up to $1,449 for 128GB.
Australians may not be used to such price tags on phones, but this is about to change. Over the past month, the entire range of iPhones has risen in price overnight. The 16GB iPhone 6 will now cost the same $999 (up from $869) as the 32GB Galaxy S6 plan, despite having half the storage.
Samsung Galaxy Android Nougat Update Info (2018)
The 32GB HTC One M9 debuted in Australia just over a week ago at $1,099 — $100 more than the flat S6.
These new high prices are linked to the weak Australian dollar and you can bet they will stop there. Even if the Aussie regains its former strength, once retailers feel that Aussies have embraced the higher price scheme, they will want to keep it up for as long as possible.
Telstra has a regular range of four aircraft for the GS6 and GS6 Edge. The smallest plan is probably not worth your time considering the next plan only costs $4 more for significantly more data. The 128 GB model is currently sold out.
Optus is offering the S6 Flat and S6 Edge in 32GB and 64GB models, but the 128GB model is not yet available.

Plans start at $60 for the S6 plan and 500MB of data, though the $80 option is a great deal with the full 6GB you can use monthly. These two identical plans cost $66 and $85 respectively with the Galaxy S6 Edge.
Vodafone offers the S6 and S6 Edge in multiple pricing plans. His Red Planes, in particular, have a lot to love about. Choice of a variable duration subscription to Spotify or SMH, 2 months of unlimited data in Data Workout promotions, bonus data every month for the duration of the contract, 300 minutes of international calls and endless text messages both in Australia and abroad.

Virgin now has live pre-order plans for two S6 phones, though like the rest, there’s currently no way to pre-order the 128GB models.
In the table below, we have excluded the $30 plan. When you factor in monthly phone bills, it doesn’t make sense to opt for a $40 plan; the difference between them is about 1 dollar.

Samsung unveiled two of its new Galaxy smartphones at the Unpacked event – and while there are no surprises, the new Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 edge+ continue the trend of larger devices with brighter displays.
The Samsung Galaxy S6 edge+ retains the original design and side “edge display” of the S6 Edge, but has a screen and hardware on par with the larger Galaxy Note 5. The S6 edge+ comes with a 5.7″ display (as opposed to the 5.1″ S6 Edge) with curved QHD Super AMOLED Dual Edge display.
The S6 edge+ display works like the S6 Edge curved display, but with advanced features for ease of use. In terms of camera, the S6 edge+ features a 16-megapixel rear sensor with optical image stabilization, phase detection autofocus and 4K video. On the front, you’ll find a 5-megapixel camera to take selfies to the point.

Interestingly, Edge+ will support the long-awaited Samsung Pay feature when it launches in the US and Canada (and hopefully Australia). Like rival Apple Pay, Samsung Pay will allow Galaxy owners to use their phone to make contactless purchases.
Samsung Pay uses fingerprint authentication to authorize transactions and is protected by the Samsung KNOX security platform. Your identity is protected by digital tokenization and Magnetic Secure transmission.
In terms of specs, the device is powered by an octa-core Exynos processor and packs a 3,000mAh battery with adaptive fast charging.
The S6 edge+ runs Android 5.1.1 Lollipop with TouchWiz, and while the storage expansion option is gone, you can choose between 32GB or 64GB of storage.
