Season 5 of the supernatural drama based on the novel by L.J. Smith moves into a dorm at nearby Whitmore College with Elena (Nina Dobrev) and Caroline (Candice Accola) and hopes for a new normal. Unfortunately, Things quickly take a turn for the worse when their third partner, Megan (Hayley Kiyoko), is killed by a vampire at a convention, and Elena learns that Megan is having an affair with her late father. Meanwhile, Katherine (Dobrev) struggles to become a human after 500 years as a vampire, and asks Damon (Ian Somerhalder) to help her now that she has threatened many of her enemies. There, Elena asked Dr. Maxfield receives a disturbing message. At the same time, Nadia reveals her surprising history to Katherine. Silas asked what Damon didn’t expect.
Silas announces his new goals to Damon and Elena. Tessa tells Stefan about his next move; Katherine discovers an unexpected consequence of being human and realizes she needs a new place to live. As the season 6 premiere approaches on October 3rd, I got to review the show’s season 5 DVD, which is now available for purchase. Here is my opinion.
The Vampire Diaries Season 5 follows Elena (Nina Dobrev) starting college and struggling with the idea of leaving her boyfriend Damon (Ian Somerhalder) behind. Silas becomes Stefan’s (Paul Wesley) doppelganger and follows Catherine as she struggles to transform into her human form. Most seasons involve identity battles for the characters. Everyone is trying to escape their past as a human or a vampire. Along the way, there is still conflict between Stefan and Damon and Elena and their love triangle, and Katherine is thrown into the mix. Each episode offers a continuation of a story started in the previous episodes, adding a lot of shock value. You must watch all the episodes to stay up to date with events and news on the show. The finale provided one of the best cliffhangers of recent seasons, and Damon was the focal point of the season 5 finale.
