While it looks classic, the 2 ½” slimmed down version of the traditional Button Down hints at something smaller and a little more modern.
A vintage-chic über-casual one-piece collar style that’s in the sun right now. Pair with short sleeves and a straight hem to complete the laid-back look.
Classic and safe, the one-button barrel is the most popular choice. Perfect for formal occasions but can be worn with anything. Can’t decide? Go with this.
Technically, the two-button style is less formal, but it’s a fashionable look that works with most fabrics and most situations. This is a great option if you like to roll up your sleeves, as the cuff is slightly wider than our other options.

Our most formal cuff option, the French cuff is a pleated style that requires cufflinks. Black tie occasions are a must, a bit too formal for most modern workplaces – unless you’re working high-end in a formal office. First years may want to wait for a few promotions before they explode.
A short sleeve skirt is a straight simple sleeveless skirt. Short sleeve length and width settings are configurable in Blueprint.
A placket is a strip of fabric that runs down the center front of the shirt where the buttonholes are. The ratio gives four plaque variants.
The standard plaque is a classic, conservative look. It gives the shirt more strength and structure and will also help keep the frayed collar from pulling down on the shoulders. Our placket is 1 1/2″ wide, with a 1/4″ topstitch to the left and right of the shirt buttons.
Two Face Costume
A French facade is a modern continental look and is considered by many to be a more formal choice. But don’t let that control you, the French face can be worn casually too. If you’re offering a slightly smaller build than a standard plaque, consider that if you want to keep things clean and light.
The front hides the buttons on the shirt by inserting a layer of fabric over the buttons. This is usually a formal front style – for example, it makes a great minimalist tuxedo shirt. But it will also be adventurous to wear in more casual settings.
Popover is a witty classic. The polo-like front literally “whispers” around, so make sure you leave enough room to clear your shoulders (this can be difficult for athletic builds and petites). Ours has a 3-button style with an angled finish on the bottom.
While a pocket is definitely a bit casual, going without a pocket works on both formal and more casual shirts. Our rule of thumb: if you don’t normally use a pocket on your shirts, leave it out.

Similar to our dual utility pockets, but with an additional flap closure on each pocket. Double flap pockets give the shirt a true workwear feel and offer functional advantages to keep pocket contents safe.

A round hem is a classic choice for a button-down shirt. If you’ve never thought about it, take it. Our saddle has a shallow curve around the edge, but is two inches shorter on the sides compared to the front and back, at a glance it looks like both folds are good, but also look great unfolded.
A straight edge with side vents looks more casual and is usually only chosen for casual wear. It’s a style you’d expect in a camp collar shirt or polo.
Our standard buttons are made from a highly durable resin material in an off-white/white color that works with almost anything. Slightly thicker than the average button, they feel substantial without being difficult to press, and are nearly impossible to break.
The natural shine of a real pearl is unmistakable and looks especially good when paired with a crisp white shirt. These are made in a medium thickness for better durability, but beware of careless dry cleaners – these can break if not handled with care.
Decided To Cosplay As Two Face/trump
Our brown faux buttons are a great choice for casual shirts, especially those in earthy tones when a white button-down might look too plain.
Our navy blue horn buttons look great with a variety of colors when you’re looking for a darker, more subtle button but want to avoid black.
These black plastic knobs look great with darker fabrics, especially monochrome colors like charcoal and gray. That said, many will choose to pair them with a lighter colored fabric for contrast.

A crisp construction using mixed interline is best suited for dress shirts. Collars and cuffs made with our standard blend will retain their crispness and shape after repeated washing.

Best suited for open-lined, tailored (non-fusion), casual shirts. Shirts made with a soft non-woven construction will look more casual and the seams may curl slightly after a few washes.
Made without any lining. This is the lightest of all builds, so proceed with caution. Unlined construction is not recommended for anything but the heaviest fabrics, such as our Campus Oxfords. Many customers who choose an unlined collar pair it with our Fitzgerald Button.
