Alister Cole, Ben McLean, Mat Holt and Caitlin Beaumont have spent the last two weeks completing their placement with Ambulance Tasmania, and will begin their training term on Monday.

For Ms Beaumont and Mr Cole, the job was an opportunity to return to their home state after growing up in Tasmania and completing their studies at UTAS.

After three years with the Queensland Ambulance Service, Ms Beaumont said she was adjusting to the cold weather.
“I always knew I wanted to come back to Tasmania one day and I love the diversity of this job, and I didn’t know what to expect every day.”
Originally from Hobart, Mr Colehas spent the past 18 months in Melbourne and said the time was right to return home to Tasmania.
“I like helping people, it’s not every day or every job you have to do. It’s better to go back to Tasmania.

The jobs are a new beginning for MrMcLean and Mr Holt, who both say they are excited to make Launceston their home.
MrMcLean has worked for Ambulance Victoria for the past two years and says he has been “blown away” by the move.
“I love the freedom that comes with this job, and you can think on your feet and really make a difference in everyday life,” he said.
Previously based in NSW, Mr Holt said the move to Tasmania was a pipe dream he was excited to achieve.

“I love the outdoors and mountain biking, so I feel like this is where I need to be,” he said.
“Everyone has been so welcoming, I think it’s a great place to work.”

BaptistCare Shalom Center and BaptistCare Cooinda Court are the first facilities to welcome a group of 16 final year paramedic students from the University of Tasmania in August.
Students participate in a medical education program that includes all levels of nursing, allied health and medical professions and participate in the care of residents in all aspects of elder care.

At the end of the session, a multidisciplinary seminar was held and the students presented a case study, which demonstrated their learning and the complexity of the residents’ care needs.
“This first installation was a huge success with strong engagement and positive feedback from residents, staff and managers,” said Dr Duddle.
“The students were humbled by the experience and really appreciated the opportunity to see how to provide care from a different perspective.”
