Verbatim 1200mah Portable Power Pack – Verbatim is known to many old-timers for its floppy disks, but since the demise of that market, Verbatim has branched out into new media, such as lighting and water filters, and accessories like USB power packs. Verbatim has a wide range of rechargeable packs from 1,200 mAh to 10,000 mAh, and a 5,200 mAh dual USB power pack is available here.
First impression is good. The power pack comes in an attractive packaging that is easy to open and does not require a scissor attack. Inside is a power pack, a short USB to micro-USB cable and instructions. The USB cable is only 10 cm long and can be used to charge power packs and charge other devices. Some may question the length of the cable, but I think it’s comfortable and keeps everything from untangling. Also, I have very long cables if I need them.

The body of the device is 7 cm wide and 11 cm tall. The depth is 1.7 cm and the weight is about 175 grams. The top and bottom faces are covered with a soft-touch rubber coating, while the middle part looks like plastic with a metallic feel. The bottom has four small foot bulbs, the top surface has four blue LEDs and a small button. Press the button for a few seconds and the LED will light up to show the battery level.

Round Edge has three USB ports, 2x standard and 1x micro-USB. The latter is used to charge the power pack, and the former is used to charge other devices. As with similar products, one port is rated at 2.1 A (Port A) and the other at 1 A (Port B). However, unlike some power pack competitors, the two USB ports can be used for charging while the device itself is charging.
The power pack has a capacity of 5,200 mAh, which Verbatim recommends to charge a smartphone 2.5 times. My experience charging the Nexus 4 (2,100mAh internal battery) isn’t too far from the truth. Furthermore, the blue LED is a good indicator of battery level – each LED counts as 25%, so four is 100%, three is 75%, and so on. Below is the Mandatory Battery+ screenshot that shows the Nexus 4’s charging speed, which is almost identical to when charging from a power charger.
In conclusion, the Verbatim Dual USB Power Pack is an excellent device. The soft-touch rubber cover feels a bit soft, and charging while charging is a valuable feature. My only complaint is that the power pack is a little expensive at £41.99, and there are other models that offer more capacity for less money (but beware of batteries that charge and cannot be charged at the same time). As this is a brand new product, no ‘street price’ has been released, but around £25 makes the dual USB power pack a bargain. The 10000mAh 45W power pack supports PD 3.0 and Qualcomm® Quick Charge™ 3.0 technology for fast charging of 3 devices simultaneously. The 3 ports have one Type C PD port and two USB A ports, one of the USB A ports supports QC 3.0 18W fast charging.
When using the Type-C port alone, it provides 45W PD output and supports charging multiple laptops with PD chargers. With a power input that supports Type C PD 45W, you can charge the power pack quickly.
